Considering that the current generation came just a year ago, it seems natural 2019 Mazda CX-5 to come without bigger changes. However, latest reports suggest that we are about to see some big changes under the hood. The popular small crossover has been around for about six years. The current model is in the second generation since last year, which indicates that no bigger changes are about to come for the next year.
We are about to see a familiar design, styling, interior etc. On the other side, next year could bring some interesting novelties under the hood, which will definitely make this excellent crossover even more competitive. Despite potential changes, we expect 2019 CX-5 to come in usual time, somewhere late in the year.
2019 Mazda CX-5 changes
Just like we’ve mentioned, 2019 Mazda CX-5 changes are quite possible. While the base design is about to remain the same, there is a big chance to see new engines under the hood. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 diesel should be one of the most interesting novelties. Also, 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo is another potential version to come. In all other aspects, this well-designed crossover is likely to remain the same.
This means the same exterior styling, which follows the Mazda’s newest design language and definitely is one of the best-looking models in the class. The cabin also won’t be changed, though some tweaks to the list of standard equipment are possible. So far, there were three trim levels – Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. We don’t expect changes in this structure.
2019 Mazda CX-5 with a diesel engine for the U.S. market?
We are witnessing the popularity rise of diesel engines in North America. This most refers to mid-size trucks but even some of the popular crossovers already come with an oil-burner, like Chevy Equinox for example. This indicates that the 2019 Mazda CX-5 could come with its familiar 2.2-liter SkyActiv D engine. This unit delivers around 175 horsepower. Still, latest reports suggest we could see few modifications on the engine, which will provide additional 15 horses, so total output should go around 190 horsepower.
2019 Mazda CX-5 could get a turbocharger
Another potential novelty for the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is a new version of a familiar 2.5-liter gasoline engine. This unit has been the only engine in the offer so far. It is an atmospheric engine that delivers around 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. It comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. A new version with a turbocharger is expected to come next year and it should be able to deliver around 230 horses.
When will the new SkyActive X come?
Development of the brand-new, industry-first compression-ignition gasoline engine is almost done. The new engine will feature excellent efficiency, as well as with plenty of power. Still, it will most likely have its debut in the new-generation Mazda 3. This should come in about a year or two. So, don’t expect to see it under the hood of this compact crossover before a mid-cycle update or something like that.
2019 Mazda CX-5 release date
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 release date is scheduled for the end of the year. Considering that we won’t see bigger changes, expect new engines potentially, some earlier arrivals don’t seem so likely.
How much will 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?
When it comes to the price, we don’t expect changes for the next year, at least when it comes to the current version with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine. Base models will go around 24.000, while fully loaded models could easily go over 32.000 dollars. Both 2019 Mazda CX-5 diesel and Turbo versions will add few thousands if some of these arrive.
