As you probably know, GM is in a process of a complete renewing of the full-size SUV and truck lineup. Along with famous models like Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado, the company plans another vehicle for the new T1 platform. It is the 2020 Chevy Avalanche, which has been rumored for the next year. For those who are familiar with this nameplate, it is a truck that was in production for a full 12 years, between 2001 and 2013.
During these years, we saw two generations of it and it looks like the third generation will come back after six or seven years of break. It will come as a completely new vehicle, based on the company’s latest design solutions, and should be more successful than previous models.
2020 Chevy Avalanche Design
In terms of design characteristics, we have no doubt that the new 2020 Chevy Avalanche will stick to the base approach that characterized previous generations. In practice, this means a little bit uncommon truck layout with a focus on comfort, rather than on utility. Of course, it will ride on the company’s new T1 platform, which has been presented with the new-generation Silverado in the last year. In terms of mechanics, this means the use of the latest design solutions, which will make this model both capable and efficient.
Of course, it will ride on the extended version of the new platform and share most of its characteristics with the new Suburban, which is also about to come in the next year. The overall layout will be truckish, but with a much bigger cabin, which will provide plenty of comfort on the inside. On the other side, cargo bed will be smaller compared to models like Silverado, so don’t count on some spectacular payload capacity. Another interesting thing about the 2020 Chevy Avalanche is the possibility to see GM’s new independent rear suspension in the offer, which would drastically improve the overall comfort.
2020 Chevy Avalanche Interior
The 2020 Chevy Avalanche interior is still a complete mystery. At this point, we know that the 2020 Chevy Avalanche will come with some kind of a larger crew cab layout, with two spacious rows of seats and capacity for six people. Due to an extended wheelbase, it will feature plenty of legroom, while the cargo area should be decent as well.
When it comes to the dashboard, the overall layout should have a lot of similarities with the new Silverado, though we count on a little bit finer approach, with better materials and more style. Also, count on a pretty long list of standard features, especially when it comes to the
When it comes to the powertrain, we expect that the 2020 Chevy Avalanche will come with familiar V8 units in the offer. Base models will come with a familiar 5.3-liter engine that delivers around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. We count on an optional 6.2-liter V8 as well. This one delivers around 420 horses and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Both engines should come paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission with standard RWD and available AWD layout.
Some reports also suggest a diesel option in the offer. In that case, count on a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel that delivers 282 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque.
Release Date and Price
The 2020 Chevy Avalanche still waits for the official confirmation. However, many reports suggest its arrival already in the next year. If it ever arrives, base models will probably go around 40-45.000 dollars.
