Introducing a large boxy crossover with lots of practicality and unusual styling was Ford’s idea of a modern mid-size crossover. The original version came almost ten years ago. While the initial model was well received, the company actually has never made to get some decent sales numbers. Weak points of this crossover were numerous, starting from poor fuel economy, cheap interior materials etc. Things were slightly improved in 2013 when we saw a mid-cycle refresh. Since then, the Flex didn’t receive any change.
Moreover, the 2019 Ford Flex also continues in the same way. It has few strong points, but definitely can’t compare with class leaders Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander, even with Chevy Traverse. So, we think that this crossover will end its production and the second generation won’t come at all. In any case, the 2019 Flex continues without bigger changes, featuring familiar design characteristics.
2019 Ford Flex Design
Speaking of the base design characteristics, the 2019 Ford Flex continues in the same way. This mid-size crossover continues with its familiar boxy shape, which has been introduced almost a decade ago. Of course, there was a mid-cycle update in 2013, when the model received the current look. Since then, we didn’t see a lot of changes. It continues with the same interior design, which offers a lot of space, as well as rectangular cargo area, which makes it perfect for loads and unloads of large objects. On the other side, interior quality seems a little disappointing. The whole cabin is full of hard and cheap plastic surfaces. The list of standard equipment isn’t spectacular at all if we consider that the company marks this model as some kind of luxury crossover.
2019 Ford Flex Trim Levels
Speaking of 2019 Ford Flex configurations, things are pretty simple in this case. There are three familiar trim levels in the offer. The base model is called SE. It comes with standard features like 17-inch wheels, 4.2-inch central display, rear parking sensors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power driver’s seat, Bluetooth, six-speaker audio system etc.
The next one is 2019 Ford Flex SEL. This one adds a lot of interesting things, including dual-zone climate control, 8-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, power-adjustable front seats and much more. There is even an optional 202A package, which includes things like blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, power-adjustable pedals, driver-seat memory settings, leather upholstery, 7-speaker audio system and more.
Finally, a top-range 2019 Ford Flex Limited includes all above and also adds many novelties, including some notable visual enhancements. On the inside, you can count on wood trim, premium sound system, navigation and much more. This trim level also comes with one optional package, 301A, which includes things like automatic parallel parking system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, a power-adjustable and heated steering wheel, ventilated seats etc.
2019 Ford Flex Engines
The base engine for 2019 Ford Flex is a familiar 3.5-liter V6, which is good for about 287 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque.
The Limited trim comes with a newer-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which is good for about 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines come with a six-speed transmission, which in base models sends power to the front wheels, while AWD layout is available already in mid-range SEL trim.
How much does 2019 Ford Flex cost?
When it comes to the price, base 2019 Ford Flex goes around 30.500 dollars. A mid-range 2019 Ford Flex SEL is available at 33.500 dollars. Finally, the Limited starts at 37.500 dollars.
Is there any potential rival?
It is hard to tell. At the moment when the Flex was arriving, many predicted a close rivalry with Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia. Still, the current situation on the market isn’t so good for this boxy crossover, so soon discontinuation seems almost certain.
