The 2019 GMC Canyon is about to come updated and one of the biggest novelties should be a brand-new gasoline engine. The current generation of the mid-size truck has been around for about four years and it is a perfect time for a mid-cycle update.
This refresh will include numerous changes. Besides the possible new engine, we are about to see those changes that are usual for facelifts. The new version will come with improved styling, which will include various tweaks, mostly at the front.
Besides styling updates, we are about to see novelties on the insider. Which exact interior novelties are about to come, it is still unclear. Some tweaks on the dahs are possible, but the core should be new standard equipment. In terms of mechanics, the new engine shouldn’t be the only novelty. The 2019 Canyon should also come with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
2019 GMC Canyon Facelift
This mid-cycle update will include numerous changes, but the exterior design is the always the most notable thing. The 2019 GMC Canyon will come with the upgraded look, which will include modifications on various areas. Of course, the focus will be on the front end, where we are expecting to see new front fascia, restyled bumper and some tweaks to the grille and headlights.
Other parts of the truck should remain basically the same, but novelties like new wheels, exterior colors, and tweaks to the rear end are quite possible too. Although many expected a complete 2019 GMC Canyon redesign, it won’t happen so soon.
On the inside, the 2019 GMC Canyon could receive some novelties on the dash but don’t expect anything significant. The core of the interior changes should be in terms of equipment. The base trim level organization will remain the same, but each trim should get something new in terms of standard features.
2019 GMC Canyon gets a brand-new engine with 450 pound-feet of torque!
First, just a 2019 GMC Canyon rumors, but now officially confirmed! There is a brand-new 2.7-liter twin-turbo gasoline engine. This unit comes with a new opposite-piston design, which provides significantly better efficiency. According to some reports, the new engine will be good for about 270 horsepower. The interesting part of 2019 GMC Canyon refresh comes with the torque, which goes all away up to 450 pound-feet. Such stupendous amount of twist is something we haven’t seen from any GM’s gasoline engine, not even close. The company’s spokesman said that the efficiency has been increased for about 30-40 percent, which in practice also means amazing fuel economy. Some reliable sources suggest 35 mpg combined.
2019 GMC Canyon – rest of the engine lineup remains the same
Besides the new engine, other units will remain the same.
This means that the base model will feature a familiar 2.5-liter engine with around 200 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. This engine could be paired with either manual or automatic transmission.
The optional 3.6-liter V6 engine, though, sounds like a much better choice. It delivers 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque and comes in a pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
When is GMC diesel coming out?
Finally, there is 2019 GMC Canyon Diesel, with a 2.8-liter Duramax inline-four engine, which is good for about 180 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Speaking of transmission, another big novelty for 2019 GMC Canyon should be a new 10-speed automatic gearbox. It will be offered as an option for some of the engines, most likely for V6 and new twin-turbo gasoline engines.
2019 GMC Canyon launch date and price
The 2019 GMC Canyon is expected to hit the market in the third quarter of the year. We don’t expect bigger changes in price. The affordable extended cab version starts already at 22.000 dollars but for a decent list of standard equipment, you will have to spend at least 25.000-26.000 dollars.
