One of the U.S. best-selling mid-size truck is about to get a new version, 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel. Unlike the rest of the world that drives legendary Hilux, North Americans have a similar but little bit different Tacoma truck in the offer. This model marks excellent sales results but the company wants to keep it highly competitive in the future. So, an update is about to come for the next year. This will be a classic facelift, which will include various changes on the exterior design, where we are expecting to see a completely new front end, as well as some tweaks to the rest of the truck. Still, the biggest novelty for the next year will be a new diesel engine, which should attract a wider range of potential buyers. Expect to see 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel in the fall.
2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel design
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel design won’t be different compared to standard gasoline models. It will ride on the same platform, feature the styling, interior design etc. The biggest difference will be 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel engine, which will provide not just better fuel economy, but better-towing capability as well. In all other aspects, we don’t expect changes. Still, it is important to mention that a big update is on the way for the next year. So, this particular version should feature all received novelties. This mostly refers to the exterior styling. The company is about to offer a new front end, which will follow the brand’s newest design language, which means similar face to the internationally-offered Hilux.
On the inside, 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel should come with a familiar design. We are about to see a familiar dashboard layout, though some revisions on the instrument cluster are certain. A trim level organization should be familiar too. Current gasoline models are available in SR, SR5, TRD Off-Road, and Limited. There is also an off-road performance version, TRD Pro, but this model will continue to be offered exclusively with a familiar V6 gasoline unit.
2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel engine
The biggest novelty for the next year is definitely engine. At the moment, there are two potential candidates to find their place under the hood of 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel. Most likely, it will be a 2.8-liter unit, which is good for about 177 horsepower and comes in a pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Another possible solution for the truck’s powertrain could be an older but highly reliable and durable 3.0-liter V6 unit. This engine delivers around 165 horsepower but comes with a little bit outdated 5-speed automatic gearbox. This is definitely the biggest disadvantage of the V6 diesel engine. Also, a smaller 2.8-liter engine is more efficient and offers a better fuel economy.
The rest of the engine lineup will remain the same. Base models come with a 2.7-liter gasoline engine that is good for about 160 horses. Still, an optional 3.5-liter V6 seems like a much better choice, since it delivers 278 horsepower.
2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel MPG
It is still early to say some more precise in terms of fuel economy, but we expect to see similar MPG to Hilux. If the new 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel comes with a 2.8-liter engine, it should be able to return around 30/31 mpg in a combined drive.
When is 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel coming?
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel release date is yet to be précised. Still, we expect the new version to come along with the rest of updated models, which means in the fall. When it comes to the price, the base version with a diesel engine should go around 26/27.000 dollars.
