The 2019 Volvo XC90 is likely to remain unchanged for the next year. The famous mid-size crossover has been around for more than 15 years. One of the most recognizable things about this model is the unusually long production cycle of the original model, which was finally replaced in 2014. Still, we are pretty sure that the current second-generation model will be replaced a little bit earlier.
For the fourth year of production, many would expect some updates. However, this crossover won’t get almost any novelty. The 2019 XC90 is about to continue in the same way, featuring familiar design, list of standard features, engine lineup etc. Considering this lack of changes, it is certain that the new-year model will come in the end of year.
2019 Volvo XC90 Changes
As we’ve mentioned, there are no changes in the company’s plans at the moment. The Swedish manufacturer is working on various new models at the moment, as well as on the new hybrid powertrain. All this indicates that there is simply not enough capacity for 2019 Volvo XC90 changes. A mid-cycle refresh will probably come in about a year or two. Until then, we will be seeing a familiar face. The 2019 Volvo XC90 interior design will also come pretty much the same, though there is a chance to see few new standard features in the offer.
Speaking of trim level organization, it will also continue in the same way. This means four trims in the offer – Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, and Excellence. Already the base model comes with plenty of standard equipment, while others gradually add more and more.
2019 Volvo XC90 safety features
This manufacturer is best known for its safety, so it’s no wonder that 2019 Volvo XC90 will continue with a bunch of advanced systems. Some of them are City Safety Forward Collision and Cross Traffic Alert Rear Collision, Lane Keeping Mitigation Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Keeping Mitigation Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Sensors, Parking Sensors and much more.
2019 Volvo XC90 engines
When it comes to powertrain, 2019 Volvo XC90 will have plenty of options to offer. Base models come with a familiar 2.0-liter gasoline engine, which is good for about 250 horses and 258 pound-feet of torque.
The same engine is available in so-called twin-charged version, with both supercharger and turbocharger installed. This version delivers 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
Also, there are two diesel versions of a familiar 2.0-liter engine. The first one is a single-turbocharged version with around 190 horses. The other one is a twin-turbo version which is good for about 235 horsepower. Finally, there is a hybrid version in the offer as well.
What is Volvo XC90 T8?
Figuring out Volvo’s engine designation could be a little tricky. One of these models will be 2019 Volvo XC90 T8. This is a plug-in hybrid version of the crossover, which combines familiar 2.0-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors. A total output of this version goes all away up to more than 400 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque.
2019 Volvo XC90 release date and price
Since there are no bigger changes in plans for the next year, we expect arrival date to be sometime late in the year. When it comes to the 2019 Volvo XC90 price, we also don’t expect bigger changes. Base models should go around 45.000 dollars. On the other side, top-level models could easily go over 100.000 dollars.
Competition in this segment is very tough. There are numerous amazing mid-size crossovers on the market. Still, the 2019 Volvo XC90’s rivals should be models like Lexus RX, Audi Q7, Acura MDX, Mercedes GLE etc.
