The Bavarian carmaker is expanding its SUV lineup and it does it in a pretty large portion. There are tow full-size crossovers to come in the near future. You’ve probably heard of the new X7, but the 2020 BMW X8 is coming as well. As you may presume, this model will be in the same relationship with the new X7, just like the X6 is with the company’s most popular X5 model. It will come in a familiar couple-like layout, just in a much bigger package. This should be the company’s most luxurious crossover ever, with spectacular performances and amazingly high level of luxury.
2020 BMW X8 Design
Let’s start this 2020 BMW X8 review with some of the most basic design characteristics. There is no doubt that the new crossover will have most things in common with the new X7. Both models are yet to come, but the X7 is definitely coming first. Two models are about to features similar dimensions and the same wheelbase. Also, count on almost identical mechanics, including suspension setup. Both models will ride on the company’s new CLAR platform, characterized by lots of new design solutions and technologies that significantly improve performances, efficiency, and overall driving characteristics. Pretty much all models from the current lineup ride on the new platform, including the bestseller crossover X5 and the flagship 7 Series sedan.
How will 2020 BMW X8 look like?
In terms of aesthetics, the new 2020 BMW X8 will closely resemble its odd-numbered sibling. This means a lot of inspiration from the recent X7 performance concept. In practice, this would mean the same design language as we can see in the new X5. It is basically an evolution of the company’s famous design philosophy that is based on the famous kidney grille. In this case, the grille gets even bigger and comes with a more angular approach. Of course, count on several exclusive details as well. On the other side, the rear end will come with a sloping roof and coupe-like layout. Expect something similar to what we can see on the X6 model.
On the inside, expect a dashboard design that is pretty much the same as in new 7-Series. In practice, this means a lot of styles, considering that the dash features lots of horizontal lines and hi-quality materials. Just like the 7 Series, the new 2020 BMW X8 interior will be characterized by a nice combination of modern/digital and classic, analog elements. The center stack will be dominated by a large touchscreen interface but the rest of the controls will be physical.
The new cabin should be extremely spacious, especially because we don’t expect to see three rows in the offer. On the other side, a sloping roof will affect the cargo capacity.
2020 BMW X8 Engines
This aspect of the crossover is already familiar. The 2020 BMW X8 Coupe will feature the same engines as its X7 sibling. This means that base models will feature a 3.0-liter inline-six unit which is good for 322 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The first option will be a 4.4-liter V8, which is delivered around 450 horses and 480 pound-feet of torque. Many reports also suggest a large 6.6-liter V12 unit in the offer. This engine features a max output of 600 hp and 590 pound-feet of torque.
Finally, count on a 3.0-liter diesel as well. This engine is good for about 315 horses and 394 pound-feet of torque. All engines will come in a pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2020 BMW X8 Release Date and Price
Though the new model still waits for the official confirmation, latest reports suggest its arrival in early 2020. The BMW X8 2020 will probably feature a starting price of around 90.000 dollars.
