In pretty much all SUV ratings, the Journey takes the last place and that is for a good reason. Despite the very affordable price, this decade-old crossover doesn’t give any good reason to buy it. An outdated design makes this vehicle horrible to drive, so soon discontinuation seems like certain things. This model originally came in 2008 and it will be replaced by a completely new crossover under Chrysler badge. Until this happens, the company will continue production, so the 2020 Dodge Journey could easily be the last year model in the offer.
Therefore, we don’t expect to see any important change for the next year. It will continue in the same way, featuring familiar styling and overall design. Moreover, the list of standard equipment will also remain pretty much the same. All in all, nothing important to come.
2020 Dodge Journey Design
The original Journey came more than a decade ago. At that time, it was a quite attractive crossover. However, it hasn’t changed too much since then, so there is no way we could put it in the same sentence with much younger competitors. The main issue is the platform, which was quite old even at the launch time. Therefore, this crossover rides very bad, almost like traditional body-on-frame SUV. Bad driving characteristics are completely followed by an outdated styling, which remained almost untouched for all those years. The crossover is boxy and looks pretty bulky. The only benefit from such design is cargo are, which seems quite friendly for larger objects. Still, the overall cargo space is below-average.
Another important aspect we should mention about design is the aspect of safety. Due to an outdated construction, the 2020 Dodge Journey will definitely continue with lower crash-test ratings that most other crossovers in the class.
2020 Dodge Journey Interior
The interior is probably the only aspect in which 2020 Dodge Journey will be able to compete with other models in the class. Despite its age, it features quite an attractive interior and, more importantly, hi-quality materials. Soft-touch surfaces are all over the cabin, while the seats are also very supportive. Like the previous year models, the 2020 Dodge Journey will continue with a familiar layout, with a cabin that can accommodate seven passengers.
First, two rows offer quite a nice amount of legroom, while the third one can accommodate children only. As we already mentioned, the crossover features quite a boxy shape, so you can count on a luggage-friendly cargo area. However, you can’t count on too much space behind the third row, only on for a couple of shopping bags. Things are getting better once seats fold now. The overall capacity goes up to 68 cubic feet, which is still less than most other models in the class.
Count on a familiar trim level organization in the 2020 Dodge Journey. The base S model won’t come with a too long list of standard equipment. Some of the highlights are 4.3-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, 6-speaker audio system, keyless ignition, and entry etc. You can also get things like a Bluetooth, USB, voice commands, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power adjustable driver’s seat etc.
Next in the line is SX trim level. This one adds goodies like an 8.4-inch touchscreen, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, tri-zone climate control etc. Like in the base, there is a nice amount of optional features as well.
With the Crossroad trim, you can get several unique styling details, such as black 19-inch alloy wheels, premium sound system, navigation and much more.
Finally, there is a GT trim, with unique 19-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated seats and much more.
2020 Dodge Journey Engines
Two familiar gasoline units will carry on in the 2020 Dodge Journey. Base models will feature a familiar 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit that delivers around 175 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. An optional 3.6-liter V6 seems like a much better deal and guarantees far better performances. A max output goes around 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to fuel economy, you can count on class-average results. The base engine returns around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The V6 is good for about 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, which are also quite respectable numbers for the class.
2020 Dodge Journey Release Date and Price
We have no doubt that the 2020 Dodge Journey will come late in the next year. There are no bigger changes planned for the next year, so don’t count on any launch date that is earlier than usual. One of the good things about this crossover is a very affordable price. Base models are available already at around 23.000 dollars. V6 models start at around 27.500 dollars.
