We are witnessing some kind of a revival of mid-size trucks in North America. Not so long ago, this segment was almost forgotten in this part of the world, so marginalized that one of the models in the segment, Nissan Frontier, hasn’t been updated for almost 15 years. Things are different today. Chevy has brought back its famous Colorado, while Toyota Tacoma is undisputed leader for years. Ford wants its part of the share, so we are about to see another comeback. In the past decade, the Ranger was reserved for the Australian market only. Finally, it is coming back to the U.S. next year, as well as its performance version, 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Design
Without any doubt, we are about to see a T6 derivate of the familiar model for the Australian market. Still, expect to see lots of upgrades. First of all, there are various mechanical upgrades to come. The Raptor is already present in Australia but it doesn’t feature as many distinctive details as it should. So, the North American version will come with lots of upgrades. In terms of base 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor specs, the most important will be chassis upgrades, which will make this truck more off-road capable. Of course, this refers to chassis reinforcements, as well as on a completely new suspension. We will see higher ground clearance, more suspension travel, new brakes and much more.
Of course, expect lots of styling upgrades as well. There is no doubt that the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor will take a lot of inspiration from the F-150 Raptor. Expect the same approach that involves lots of black plastics and recognizable blue color. Instead of recognizable Ford’s logo, we will see the company’s lettering on a new, blacked grille. Other areas that will feature black plastics are fenders, bumpers, underbody protection etc. Also, expect to see new wheels design, as well as new off-road tires.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Interior
The Australian Raptor doesn’t feature too many unique details, compared to standard Ranger models. The North American version will fix that issue. So, expect to see not just Raptor lettering on the dash and seats, but various new details, including unique trim, sports seats, sports pedals and shifter and much more. Of course, we will see a unique list of standard features, as well as unique color schemes.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Engine
Another big change compared to the Australian model is expected under the hood. In Australia, truck drivers prefer diesel engines, so even this performance version comes with an oil burner. It is a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine which delivers around 210 horsepower. Considering that already base North American Rangers will feature a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor will most likely come with a new 2.7-liter unit. So, you can count on something like 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Also, expect to see a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
When will 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor arrive?
The 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor is expected to arrive sometime in the next year, most likely in the second half of year.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Price
It still seems early to speculate about the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor price, but various reports suggest new performance truck will go somewhere between 35.000 and 40.000 dollars.
Are there any competitors?
Definitely yes. The closest rival will be Chevy Colorado ZR2, which comes with a potent V6 engine and delivers both great performances and high level of comfort. Also, there are amazing Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro versions, which might feature higher price, but deliver uncomparable off-road performances and spectacular list of standard equipment.
