2021 Chevy Equinox is a 5-passenger compact crossover SUV that brings two powerful engines, an extraordinary amount of equipment and high-end features for the interior. Recently, the company dropped the diesel engine, but don’t worry – under the hood will be equally powerful 1.5-liter inline-4 and even stronger 2.0-liter turbocharged mill. The optional 2.0-liter turbo engine is one of the most powerful units in this segment.

Moreover, the Equinox offers two additional appearance packages available on higher trims – The Midnight Edition, and the Redline Edition. The front-wheel-drive will be standard setup, but all models except the base L can get the AWD as well. The maximum towing capacity with the 2.0-liter engine is 3,500 pounds, which is impressive for a compact SUV.

2021 Chevy Equinox Configurations and Design

2021 Chevy Equinox comes in similar size like the current fancy mid-size 2-row Blazer. With the 183 inches in length and 107.3-inch long wheelbase, this crossover is more significant than most of the compact vehicles around. However, it’s almost seven inches shorter than the Chevrolet Blazer. Moreover, the brand-new roof rails will improve the utility and add to the bolder appearance.

Also, a hands-free tailgate available on top trims helps to load and unload items with ease. The new Equinox will offer two distinctive exterior packages: Midnight Edition, available for the LT model, and Redline Edition for Premium version. The Midnight Edition adds a blackout trim, and black 19-inches wheels, besides the Jet Black leather seats for the cabin.

On the other hand, Redline Edition features black 19-inch wheels with red hash marks, black grille, black trim, black mirror caps, all-black-everything. The black badging with a red outline will break a bit this dark color scheme.

Interior

The cabin of 2021 Chevy Equinox offers a seating configuration for 5-passengers, and it is efficient and comfortable. The front seats are supportive and ideal for a long journey. The second-row bench comes wits a recycling feature, but the impression is that the angle is too tilted. The rear seats are generous and far better than in similar vehicles like Nissan Rogue or Toyota RAV4.

Furthermore, behind the rear seats, you’ll find 29.9 cubic feet of storage space. That’s a bit shorter comparing to the segment rivals. The rear seats fold almost flat in a 60/40 split. As a result, the total amount of space with the rear seats down is 63.5 cubic feet. Still, the CR-V is the class-leader with 75.8 cubic feet of cargo.

Somehow, it’s always color that draws most of the attention to the viewer’s eyes. For example, when thinking about Ferrari what the first association? Red, of course. In the same manner, 2021 Chevy Equinox will try to establish a recognizable style through color. The palette consists of 11 different colors for the exterior and three interior color options. So, the available tints are Pacific Blue Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, and Nightfall Gray Metallic.

The list continues with Chocolate Metallic, Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, and Midnight Blue Metallic. Also, the exclusive options for higher trims will be Cayenne Orange Metallic, Cajun Red Tintcoat, and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat. As for the interior, the customers may choose between Medium Ash Gray, Jet Black premium cloth seat trim, and Jet Black perforated leather-appointed seat trim.

2021 Chevy Equinox LT

2021 Equinox LT is probably the best choice if you consider the amount of equipment and features that this model offers. The customers will have the option to choose the additional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The LT includes an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, SiriusXM satellite radio, high-intensity headlights, dark tinted rear glass, and driver info screen in the cluster. Moreover, the potential buyer of Equinox LT faces new temptations.

We mentioned earlier in this review the Midnight Edition, which includes som many black-colored features and 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels. The Confidence & Convenience package consists of blind-spot warning, rear park assist, rear-cross alert, dual-zone climate control, and much more.

Also, there will be an optional factory navigation system with an 8-inch touchscreen and extra USB ports. We also mentioned that the three exclusive colors are available for the LT, and each one adds $1,000 to the sum.

Engines

2021 Chevy Equinox comes with two engine options: 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 unit, and 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 equivalent. The first-one produces 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The base engine can tow 1,500, which is pretty standard for a compact SUV. Both engines will have front-wheel drive as standard, with optional all-wheel-drive for better traction.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged powertrain makes 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and it’s paired with a more refined 9-speed automatic transmission. The maximum towing capacity of this drivetrain in 3,500 pounds. All models will include an idle start/stop system that shuts down the mill at idle to save the juice.

The Equinox fuel economy is lower a bit than the EPA ratings of competition. The 1.5-liter engine returns 26/31 mpg (FWD), and 25/30 mpg (AWD). On the other hand, the 2.0-liter turbocharged unit returns city/highway 22/29 mpg (FWD), 22/28 mpg (AWD).

Still, we recommend the Equinox LT. The LT starting price is $28,700, or $30,300 with the AWD. The most expensive Premier comes wit ha price tag od $32,600.
