2021 Ford F-150 Lightning – The Possible Comeback or False Hope?

Most of our readers remember very well the fantastic F-150 Lightning truck. It was the most popular model at the time and a high-performance version of the regular F-150. But, the production was terminated in 2004. The F-150 SVT Raptor step up and fill the vacant space in the full-size class. However, after almost 15 years, we hear certain rumors regarding the comeback of 2021 Ford F-150 Lightning.

Unofficial talks, of course. We have some info about the potential design and type of engine. But we must say that all of this is based on occasional news from different sources. Anyway, if 2021 Ford F-150 is coming back, it will be one of the greatest things for the automotive industry and the Ford truck fans worldwide.

Why Production Ended?

Back in 2004, the Blue Oval closed the production of an F-150 Lightning truck. According to the company, the total weight of the vehicle was the biggest issue. Of course, if you try to build a high-performance model, too many pounds might be the problem. In the past, F-150 Lightning grow over the practical size and dimensions, and it was impossible to deliver a quality performance-oriented truck.

Also, one of the most significant disadvantages back in the day was the braking system. At that time, the technology wasn’t ready to support a heavy vehicle with a high level of acceleration. The breaking configuration wasn’t fully developed enough in the 2000s.

Add heavy equipment on top of that, and you get a clear picture of what was one of the main obstacles. So, that’s the reason why the F-150 Lightning is discharged. After that, the lighter version SVT Raptor was introduced as a replacement.

2021 Ford F-150 Lightning Design

Recently, we had a chance to catch a glimpse of what supposedly would be the new 2021 Ford F-150 Lightning. The design language on this concept looks fantastic. Also, the 22-inch wheels will use the same pattern as the previous Lightning model. Furthermore, side exhaust pipe, SVT badging, and lower suspension are available as well.

The F-150 Lightning looks very similar to the F-150 Tremor if you can recall that particular design. If you remember, it was another high-performance vehicle with a sportier design. If Lightning came out, it would have a regular cab with two doors and a shorter wheelbase.

Moreover, 2021 Ford F-150 Lightning looks very similar to F-150 Raptor’s cabin. The interior should deliver high-quality materials and an overall upscale feeling. Leather seats and sportier steering will provide a better performance, with chrome trims and carbon fiber materials. The cabin offers modern design with plenty of premium features. So, expect a high-level of customization and additional equipment.

According to the rumors from the web 2021 Ford F-150 Lightning will probably use a 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine. This unit is capable of producing up to an astonishing 650 hp. The supercharger mill was developed by Roush Performance company. But, if the F-150 ever enters the production, Blue Oval will probably deploy their home-grown engine.

It will probably be V6 twin-turbo that produces 450 hp and 150-lb-ft of twist. We know one thing if this model enters production, it has an excellent chance to succeed on the market. If the Michigan-based automaker decides to put the Lightning back on the track, the pickup will be available on every primary market. For that reason, we can expect that different types of engines for different markets will be available.

2021 Ford F-150 Lightning Coming Soon?

The brand-new 2021 Ford F-150 Lightning might face the same outcome as the Ford Bronco. Popularity, discount, then the epic return, in that order. We expect that the pickup will have the starting price of around $50K.

Of course, if we see F-150 Lightning at all. The rumors are saying that the company will take a more serious approach to this matter. As a result, we could get the announce of a big comeback in 2021.
